503 and 500 errors tonight

I've been having a bunch of 503 and 500 errors (for metropolitan-walkers.org.uk) over the course of this evening. Seems to last a few mins each time. I seem to get the 503 error first, then a few 500 errors, then it goes back to working. The log lines in the error log for my site for the 500 errors don't really make sense: they say "End of script output before headers" - my CMS doesn't normally produce script errors and the problem resolves without me editing anything (I can't edit, as I can't get to the edit screens when the error occurs!) so all I can think is that something is timing out trying to generate the page.
