Yahoo groups changes - Move to Groups.io was created by Alan Cooper
Hi
Chiltern Weekend Walkers (CWW) uses Yahoo groups to send out weekly e-mails to our members with our walks and social events. Yahoo are no longer supporting Group content (see below) although they say they will be maintaining the e-mail service. However as we had had some reliabilty issues with Yahoo we were considering moving to another mail service, this Yahoo announcement has brought ths change forward.

"Yahoo has made the decision to no longer allow users to upload content to the Yahoo Groups site. Beginning October 28 you won't be able to upload any more content to the site, and as of December 14 all previously posted content on the site will be permanently removed. You'll have until that date to save anything you've uploaded.

In the external forums discussing this Yahoo change and how to deal with it, Groups.io is considered the best platform to move to and I have registered CWW with them at the free service level, which it looks like would be sufficient for our needs. It is possible to do a transfer of the Yahoo content & e-mail list across to Groups.io.

However Groups.io announced on 23rd October that if organisations want to transfer content & mail lists across there will be a fee of $220 (their annual premium service cost). Premium Fee paying organisations would not be charged.

Is it possible for Ramblers Groups to use the Ramblers National registration with Groups.io for to set up their weekly e-mail service and avoid the transfer fee?
