It's been suggested that I should put contact details on our group website, and I see that some groups do. I used to include a group email address, but removed it when the spam became too much. It still gets several spam messages every day, even though it has been completely unused and unpublished for over ten years. It is sufficient to render an email address unusable, so I'm very reluctant to try this again. Another option is to provide a form - but I already have a form to allow comments on our group walks, and this also receives far more spam that genuine messages.
Has our group just been unlucky, or is this what normally happens, and is there any defense against it? I could try using phone numbers, as these are less likely to result in automated nuisance calls, but to me, even that seems too much of a risk.
