sending programmes and newsletters by email was created by Michael Kohnstamm
Cardiff group want to start sending out programmes by email. Mailchimp seems to be popular, but the information document on Ramblers-webs points out that we already have phpList, which I've tried and seems fine. The worry is that it then states "You should remember that if you go down this route you will have to manage any issues with your emails being treated as spam".
What issues? and how hard is it to manage them? Are emails from phpList more likely to go into members' spam folder from phpList than Mailchimp, or are ISP's more likely to bar such emails? And what does it mean by "manage" - would we have to contact every member (by phone?) to check their spam folder, or plead with ISP's not to block our messages?
It seems to me that phpList has multiple advantages over Mailchimp, so why do so many groups use the latter?
