I'm nearly ready to upgrade my web sites from Joomla 1.5 to 3.2. Here's what I did.
I started with a RaspberryPi running a LAMP stack for a test environment, but have recently been using an EC2 server on Amazon Web Services. It's a lot faster, accessible from everywhere without having to open up my domestic firewalls.
So, I took a JPA backup of the site I want to upgrade and installed it in my test environment with Akeeba Kickstarter. Then I used redMigrator (from redCOMPONENT) to upgrade it to Joomla 3.2.
This worked fine (with a bit of fiddling), but I wasn't happy with the formatting - it needed a better header, the Ramblers footer module etc. So I copied one of the standard Joomla 3.2 templates and amended it, and the Ramblers footer and News Feed modules until they were what I wanted.
So, I've got a web site I'm happy to go live with and some templates and modules that might, with a bit of work, be reusable.
My last problem, then, is how to get the web site onto the Cloudnext platform.
a) I could reverse the Site->JPA->KickStarter process, but I'd need a fairly powerful logon to the database, which I haven't got. Ideally, I'd have SSH access to the web server, but can probably live without that.
b) Alternatively, could I send the platform admins a JPA for them to sort things out?
There may be some other options I've not thought of.
So, what's the best next step?
