How can I get rid of the Prev and Next buttons showing up at the bottom of some pages?

They appear on some pages which only have single articles. Sometimes the Next points to the next web page from the menu, sometimes to a different page. I don't need them and would like to remove completely.

Sorry if this is an obvious easy one, but Joomla is a steep learning curve!
