Duplicate site in Wordpress was created by bern gill
After much pain we decided the method of setting up parallel sites in www01 www02 etc didn't want to work.
It seems you end up with 3 things trying to control the main htaccess file
Wordpress, website control panel, and the webmaster trying to switch from one to the other
all vying to decide which has precedence

There's a plug in called Duplicator which does what it says on the tin, takes a duplicate of your website and allows you to save it for later, or reinstall if your website goes wrong,
or usefully to a subdomain such as www01, www02 etc and then run it live in that subdomain

For testing off line it's better to use something that runs on your PC such as instantWP
